The Truth About Fans and Groupies Issue 40 of BRAVO has an interview with Tokio Hotel about their fans, along with an article about how Nicole Scherzinger, singer for The Pussycat Dolls, admires the boys. The interview is a very good read, with Tom revealing that he’s “become calmer” and Bill saying, “I don’t have a girlfriend with whom I can share my life, who could understand everything I did. I have Tom. But I definitely want a girlfriend.” For scans and to read the full translation by Heinz of our forums, look below the break!
Tokio Hotel have the biggest fans. Now, Bill and Tom tell how they get along with them…
“F*** me if I lay down, Tom”
“Bill, be my lucky sting” [pun with the song title "Stich Ins Glück"]
The fans also catch Tokio Hotel’s attention with certain sentences.
Germany, France, England or the US: Wherever they are - the same happens everywhere: the fans explode, they scream for the names Bill (19), Tom (19), Gustav (20) and Georg (21), and they sing their songs by heart. But many of their fans do even more, they make such proposals to their favorites - in huge posters, for example: “F*** me through the monsoon” and “Tom, we want to s*** you”. On the 5th part of our great BRAVO Series, the boys tell exclusively what really happens - between them and the fans…
What do you think about the posters from your fans?
Tom: I think it’s cool that they’re so direct (smiles).
Bill: That distinguishes our fans. But, honestly: in the beginning, that used to take our breath away…
Which were the best experiences with fans, so far?
Bill: The first concert, then Durch den Monsun came out - and suddenly, many fans were singing the song. The concert had to be cancelled because there was too much crowd. It was so amazing!
Tom: We’ve been in Mexico for the first time. And we had an autograph session for more than two hours, and that was a first. The fans were truly motivated, many of them even cried and just because we were there. It was awesome! We’ve never been before in South America and we didn’t know we were so famous there. And suddenly, thousands of people showed up. What happened was really unbelievable.
Did you ever have a really impressive situation with fans?
Tom: Oh yes. One time, in Madrid, the situation really got out of control. Gustav went to his hotel room. And there were fans on his bed. They instantly hugged him and he got scared. There were also a lot of fans waiting by my door and Bill’s. They were constantly knocking; they went up the emergency stairs, screamed a lot.
Bill: And suddenly, the police showed up. They broke the door and dragged me away. “Are you Bill Kaulitz?” they yelled. Then they handcuff me, interrogated me and told me I was the responsible for such chaos. The problem was that they didn’t know how to speak English, just Spanish. I barely understood. Then Tom tried to contact our security guards. When they arrived, the things got solved. The police wanted to take me to the station!
There the fans crossed the line, right?
Bill: Well, that was traumatizing and intense…
Tom: But we were there as a band on the road - so that doesn’t bother us. It’s simply part of it and we’re not afraid. It was even impressive and actually fun. But when we’re at our homes, we like to be in peace. There we don’t sign any autograph or take pictures. But when we’re on the road, we like to do it.
Have you ever been mean to your fans?
Tom: Well, we would never be, intentionally. They’re too important for us.
Bill: We don’t want to be mean for them. We love them. But everyone has bad days, which can make us look mean now and then. Sometimes we can’t give just an autograph to all of them. We’re in too much stress and need to move on to the next assignment. We’re on the road for our fans.
Hand in your heart - did you ever have any embarrassing moments with your fans?
Tom: No. Just once, a girl wanted to go to the bedroom and fell on the floor.
Bill: Or that situation at the airport. Some girls said “We want to f*** you”, when there was silence. But that was also embarrassing for them.
Tom, how many groupies did you have on your bed, ‘till now?
Tom: Hmmmm… that’s hard to say. I don’t count.
Bill: That’s a lie, he has a Klicker.
Tom: I can only say that I’ve had more women in my bed than the times I had to use the bathroom (laughs out loud). No, that’s nonsense! Honestly: I’ve become calmer.
That means…?
Tom: I don’t want to reveal it yet, but I might have pulled the reins. It’s not like the sex became bored. But I also prefer to watch a DVD at night. The other one is too exhausting (laughs). I would like to have something more solid. But for that, the girl would have to completely rock my world.
And how are the groupies with Gustav and Georg? Are they as wild as they are with Tom?
Tom: From what we know, nothing happens (laughs)!
Bill: They’re not the kind of having a girl quickly. Gustav used to have a girlfriend in the beginning of our career. But then it wasn’t too much anymore.
Tom: Georg acts like he is a player. But he likes when the girl is in command.
Bill: He’s a pig on the inside, but on the outside he’s too shy.
Tom: We have to show him how the things are done. There was once some girl who liked him and vice versa. But none of them started anything. I’m the opposite - I belong to the hunters and collectors.
What about you, Bill - no more kisses?
Bill: No, not yet. That makes me really sad. I’m 19 now and I miss that. I don’t have a girlfriend with whom I can share my life, who could understand everything I did. I have Tom. But I definitely want a girlfriend.
But there’s such an offer for you.
Bill: It’s really hard to open yourself for someone. I don’t have the time, I’m always travelling. When I meet girls at the After-Show-Parties, I never know who they are in fact. I don’t see any resolution in the future - and that is bad. But I still have the music, which is my support. And dogs are my replacement. I want to have many dogs. They make me happy…
“I admire Tokio Hotel”
What a flatter! The world star Nicole is animated with Bill, Tom, Georg and Gustav!
Who would ever think of that? Nicole Sherzinger (30), singer of The Pussycat Dolls and a superstar said she was fan of a German band: Tokio Hotel!
Exclusively for a BRAVO interview, she confesses: “I totally admire the boys! They’re amazing!” How did she ever pay attention to Bill, Tom, Gustav and Georg? “At the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007 in Munich!” she tells excited. And what does the singer thinks about their career in America? Will they have this great success? “They’ve just been in the USA. However, they already have much success here. I’m very proud of them!” Wow – and that said by a Pussycat Doll! Right now, she and her girls have success all over the world: with the single “when I grow up” from the new album “Doll Domination”. Maybe soon, Nicole will be at Top Ten with a new rock song, as co-singer of Tokio Hotel…
